SCE is dedicated to ensuring our clients receive the best value possible with every project regardless of size. Our experience has proven that opportunities exist for costs savings during all phases, from schematic design through construction. We implement VE measures in each project we design, and regularly provide consultant services as value team members. Matt, recently certified as an Associate Value Specialist with SAVE International, has prior experience as a designer and project manager in an architectural firm. He has provided VE consultant services for review of architectural elements on a number of value studies. Our experience and multi-disciplinary approach allow us to quickly understand project goals, constraints, and to offer constructability review and value analysis services that have a track record of added value to our clients.
The VE process allows it to transcend project typology. Most successful when conducted during the end of the schematic design phase, it helps the owner and design team validate the project goals are being met within budgetary and schedule constraints. The “brainstorming” phase is an invaluable instrument where the team states observations and identifies opportunities to reduce cost, improve function, reduce risks, reduce overall schedule, etc. These ideas are then evaluated by team members and narrowed to reasonable level for further development. All observations and ideas generated during the session are shared with the owner and design team with a clear indication of which the VE team believes will add the most value. This allows the design team an opportunity to request further development of an idea not scheduled to be developed as a chance to head off ideas they’ve previously found unviable. Though not all inclusive the following items are normally evaluated during the Value Analysis process:
- Identify Project Goals & Validate
- Identify Project Constraints & Validate
- Validation of Estimates
- Risk Management Analysis
- LEED/WSSP Scorecard Review
- Constructability Review
- Identify Conflicts/Recommend Solutions
- Multi-Disciplinary Brainstorming for Alternative Solutions
- Budget Review
- Risk Analysis
- Project Schedule Review
- Value = Function/Cost
- Construction Phasing
